Tata Motors is strengthening its position in India’s electric vehicle market, with the company recording strong EV sales growth in September 2026. According to recent industry data, Tata Motors sold 14,769 electric passenger vehicles in September, marking a 101% year-on-year increase and giving the company around 41% market share. This was also Tata’s highest-ever monthly EV sales figure.
A major recent development is Tata Motors’ expansion of its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme across its complete EV portfolio. The programme, earlier available on the Tiago.ev and Punch.ev, has now been extended to the Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev. This approach reduces the vehicle’s initial purchase price by separating the battery cost from the vehicle price, potentially making EV ownership more accessible to new buyers.
Under the expanded BaaS programme, introductory acquisition prices reported for Tata’s EV range include approximately ₹4.69 lakh for the Tiago.ev, ₹6.59 lakh for the Punch.ev, ₹8.99 lakh for the Nexon.ev, ₹10.99 lakh for the Curvv.ev, ₹11.99 lakh for the Sierra.ev and ₹14.49 lakh for the Harrier.ev, before applicable battery-related charges.
The strong September performance highlights growing consumer interest in Tata’s electric portfolio. The Nexon.ev continues to be an important volume driver, while the updated Tiago.ev and Punch.ev are also contributing to sales. Tata’s newer electric SUVs are further expanding its presence across different price and vehicle segments.
Tata Motors is also continuing to focus on making EV ownership more convenient through charging infrastructure and technology. The company says its EV ecosystem includes home charging solutions and a growing public charging network.
With rising EV demand, record monthly sales and the wider BaaS offering, Tata Motors appears focused on making electric mobility more affordable and mainstream in India. The company’s expanding EV portfolio could further intensify competition with Mahindra, MG, Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki and other electric-car manufacturers.
