Ather Energy is strengthening its position in India’s electric two-wheeler market, supported by growing customer demand, new scooter models and plans to expand production and dealership networks. The Bengaluru-based company is working to make electric mobility accessible to more Indian consumers while continuing to focus on technology, performance and everyday convenience.
1. Ather prepares for dealership expansion
According to a September 25, 2026, report by Business Standard, Ather Energy has signed letters of intent for 100 new dealerships. The company plans to begin implementing these agreements in November and December as production from its new manufacturing facility gets underway. Ather had temporarily slowed dealership additions because customer demand was exceeding its existing production capacity.
2. New Konarc scooter targets a wider market
Ather recently introduced the Konarc, its new mass-market electric scooter, with a starting price of ₹99,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru). The model was announced in three variants, offering customers more choices in the electric scooter segment. The company has also indicated plans for additional versions with different range and feature combinations. This expansion could help Ather reach customers looking for electric mobility at different price points.
3. September sales highlight Ather’s market presence
India’s electric two-wheeler market continued to show strong activity in September 2026. According to a report published by Navbharat Times on October 14, Ather Energy recorded 30,479 electric scooter retail sales, securing approximately 14.7% of the market. This placed the company third among electric two-wheeler brands for the month, reflecting its strong presence in the competitive EV industry.
4. Hero MotoCorp increases its investment
Another important development came in August, when Hero MotoCorp announced plans to acquire additional shares in Ather Energy. The transaction, valued at up to ₹1,758 crore, was expected to increase Hero MotoCorp’s stake from 29.88% to 32.8%. This investment highlights the strategic importance of electric mobility and the potential for further collaboration between the companies.
5. What lies ahead for Ather Energy?
Ather’s future growth will depend on its ability to increase manufacturing capacity, expand its retail network and manage competition from established electric scooter brands. The company must also continue improving customer service, charging accessibility and product affordability.
For consumers, the expanding range of electric scooters creates more choices for daily commuting. Buyers should compare the actual riding range, charging time, battery warranty, service availability and total ownership cost before purchasing a vehicle.
