Vikram Solar Limited, one of India’s leading solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturers, is strengthening its position in the country’s renewable energy market after securing a major 400-megawatt (MW) solar module supply order for agricultural solarisation projects in Maharashtra. The company announced the order on September 28, 2026, making it one of its key recent business developments.
400 MW Solar Module Supply Order
Under the agreement, Vikram Solar will supply high-efficiency N-Type TOPCon G12R solar modules for decentralised solar projects being developed at multiple locations across Maharashtra. The modules feature glass-to-glass construction, bifacial technology and half-cut cells, with a rated power output of 620 watts peak (Wp).
According to the company’s announcement, supplies are scheduled to begin in October 2026, with the contract expected to be completed by March 2027. The order was awarded by a domestic engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company.
The project is particularly significant for agricultural-feeder solarisation, which aims to support electricity requirements associated with agricultural activities. Distributed solar installations can help generate electricity closer to where it is consumed and contribute to a more diversified power supply.
Additional Developments in 2026
The 400 MW order follows another major development announced on September 15, when Vikram Solar entered into a domestic solar-cell supply agreement with Avaada Electro for 1 gigawatt (GW) of cells. The agreement is intended to strengthen the company’s position in India’s Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) market and improve supply-chain resilience.
Solar Manufacturing and Industry Outlook
Vikram Solar’s latest business developments come as India continues to expand its renewable energy infrastructure. The company’s manufacturing expansion and adoption of advanced TOPCon module technology reflect the growing importance of high-efficiency solar products in the domestic market.
However, the industry also faces challenges. A Reuters report published on October 12, 2026, highlighted that transmission constraints prevented India’s electricity grid from absorbing a portion of the solar power generated during July and August. This underlines the need for stronger transmission infrastructure alongside new solar manufacturing capacity.
