Tata Motors continues to dominate the Indian electric vehicle (EV) landscape, maintaining a commanding market share of approximately 43% as of April 2026. The company is currently transitioning from being a first-mover to a premium powerhouse, with several major updates and launches shaking up the market.
Major Launch Alert: The Safari.ev and Harrier.ev
The most significant buzz surrounds the Tata Safari.ev, which is slated for a flagship launch around the Diwali 2026 festive season. Production is expected to commence in August. As Tata’s first three-row electric SUV, it aims to redefine the premium family segment.
-
Performance: Expected to feature a 75 kWh battery pack.
-
Range: A claimed range of up to 627 km.
-
Capability: It will offer a dual-motor AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system, positioning it as a direct rival to the Mahindra XEV 9S.
Meanwhile, the Harrier.ev is already gaining traction in showrooms, priced between ₹21.49 lakh and ₹28.99 lakh. Tata is currently offering a ₹1 lakh loyalty bonus for existing Tata EV owners looking to upgrade to this premium SUV.
The “Green Bonus” & Massive Discounts
In an aggressive move to counter rising competition from MG and Mahindra, Tata has announced record-breaking discounts for April 2026. The Tata Curvv.ev is seeing benefits up to ₹3.45 lakh, including a substantial “Green Bonus.” This strategy effectively narrows the price gap between electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) variants, making the stylish coupe-SUV more accessible than ever.
Future Horizons: Avinya and Sierra
Looking further ahead, Tata is prepping the Avinya brand for a late 2026 debut. Unlike previous models, Avinya is built on the Gen 3 “Skateboard” architecture, designed exclusively for EVs. It will be sold through a dedicated premium sales channel. Additionally, the Tata Sierra.ev has moved into final testing phases, with a launch expected toward the end of the year, reviving the iconic nameplate with a futuristic electric heart.
Commercial Expansion
Tata is not just focusing on passenger cars. This month, they launched the Intra EV Pickup at a competitive price of ₹11.95 lakh, expanding their electric commercial portfolio to address the growing demand for zero-emission last-mile delivery.
