LONGi Solar is strengthening its position in the global solar industry with a major breakthrough in high-efficiency photovoltaic technology. In September 2026, LONGi announced that its independently developed Hybrid Interdigitated Back Contact (HIBC) solar cell achieved a conversion efficiency of 28.29%, a new record for the company. The result was independently certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH) in Germany.
The new achievement represents another step forward from LONGi’s earlier 28.13% HIBC cell efficiency record announced in April 2026. LONGi has now repeatedly improved its back-contact technology during the year, highlighting the company’s continued focus on increasing solar power generation from limited installation areas.
LONGi has also demonstrated the technology through 700W-class modules, indicating the potential for higher power output in future commercial solar products. Higher-efficiency modules can be particularly valuable for rooftops, commercial and industrial installations, and utility projects where maximizing energy generation per unit of land or roof area is important.
Another important development is LONGi’s growing back-contact (BC) module business. According to the company’s H1 2026 report, BC module sales reached 19.55 GW, representing a 125% year-on-year increase. BC modules accounted for more than 65% of LONGi’s total module shipments during the first half of the year. Overseas module shipments also increased by more than 26% year-on-year, showing continued international demand.
LONGi is simultaneously expanding smart manufacturing. Its Wuhu production base recently became the first PV module factory to receive Level-4 certification under China’s Manufacturing Maturity Model (CMMM). The factory uses AI systems for quality inspection, production scheduling, equipment maintenance and energy management.
Overall, LONGi’s latest developments indicate a clear industry strategy: higher-efficiency BC technology, intelligent manufacturing and stronger overseas expansion. As solar markets increasingly focus on efficiency and long-term energy yield rather than simply module price, LONGi’s technology investments could play an important role in the next phase of global photovoltaic growth.
